I was rummaging through eBay ads looking for more crap I don’t need to decorate my basement, and I found this! Look at how terrible that bra is. It’s like a bridge that arches across the headlamps and fenders. They even had to give it speed holes because it’s completely vertical and unsupported!
Not only that, the fit is atrocious. Look at the gaps between the headlamps and the holes for them. And imagine taking off your front license plate and sliding it into that little plastic carrying bag, like a fanny pack for license plates.
This was so strikingly awful that I had to share it. That driver probably can’t even see over the front of it! He has to peer through the holes! If anyone knows of a worse bra, I’d love to see it. But I think this is the worst of all time, by a mile.

I can't say I've ever seen a bra on a 911 of that vintage before, and I do see the challenges inherent in the shape of the front of that car... But yeah, that's pretty awful.

I never understood car bras.

I think it’s an early type of camouflage, hence the incorrect placement of the license plate and the plate being red. Red plates aren’t assigned to a specific vehicle and can be used on every road vehicle with valid inspection.

There was a time in the 1980s/ early 90s when people put bras on everything for “ protection”. They were common on 911s back then, and you’d even see them on the early cars.

It reminds me of people who would buy a couch and then always keep a plastic cover on it.

When I was young I remember them being pretty common. Now you almost never see them.

Yeah, they were a fad that came and went. I had one on a car back in about 1991, but eventually took it off.

I think it was actually a status thing, having a black bra on your car’s nose was cool.

Or a car with nice, thick carpeting and cover it all with molded plastic floor liners.

The ad copy suggests that it was used for testing finished cars before shipping them out.

That one makes a little more sense to me. I like having rubber floor mats or liners because my shoes are often wet or dirty when I’m getting in my car. Having a thick carpet in a car is like having a thick carpet in your bathroom. It’s just going to get nasty. And it's not like I'm ever barefoot in my car to enjoy the carpet anyway.

I just never saw the point in protecting something that you’re never going to see. I mean, you might as well just not have it at all then.
